Don't like getting shut of the V70, nicest car I've owned. Hope the XC90 lives up to the standard set.

Just arranged to go and look at a 55 plate xc90 on Saturday, auto box and cars on 159k....anything to be wary Off? Dealer did say the seats are cracking but might be a bargaining tool.....
Anybody interested in a 53 plate v70 on 176k? |

Well, just got back and the car pulled great.
One or two issues, but nothing to do with towing. I don't think the V70 could have handled some of the hills we went up with the current caravan on the back, so definitely pleased we changed. A couple of observations, though. Although they are the same marque and have very similar interior design, the V70 felt much more solid on the inside, just, well, better built. And, but in fairness I was warned, the XC90 is much noisier, especially when dragging the van up steep inclines. Having said that, lovely to drive, very sure footed and, if it proves reliable, a good choice of car!

Have a search on the XC90 forum for buying advice, budget to get the grearbox oil changed and a few other jobs.

I'm not surprised you mentioned the noise... quite curious as to why it's more noisy, and something it was often criticised for in the day.

I'm in the same boat here as a few people, I've got a Skoda Octavia 4x4 scout and it pulls the 6 berth Bailey ok, I'm about to buy a xc90 mainly for the reason so that the 5 of us can fit in more comfortably plus once all loaded up the Skoda is on its limit with the van on the back! I'll be keeping the Skoda as its lovely and only done 41k on a 08 plate and the xc90 will be my daily driver, caravan towcar plus it will be used to pull the 205gti track car all over the uk plus Germany. The Skoda was/is only returning around 25-30mpg with the van on the back so I don't think I'll have to worry to much with the xc90 as I think it'll return around the same towing?
Fingers crossed I'll have a xc90 within the next month! |

I'm loving our xc90, we tow my 855 T-5R to drag meets and the xc is excellent. Ok it's a little under powered being a 163hp across country, we are fully loaded we camping gear and service tools etc, so right on her towing limit, but with a little pre planning she copes with everything I ask of her, motorways of course are a lot easier on her towing and the last trip from mid-wales to stratford and back again, returned 29mpg and that wasn't hanging about, cross country there but motorway on the return journey.
