Default Twin Carbs? (Again ...sorry)

Hello one and all, I have just recently purchased a set of R-Sport carb manifolds for 40mm carbs,

Now I need to know in idiot guide form (I get called on enough ) which are the best to go for, how much am I looking at to get them balanced etc, and if anyone is local to me do they fancy coming over and lending a hand, I'll supply tea and coffee.

Watch out for the project section when I get my camera fixed!

Any help and advice appreciated, this is new territory for me, mechanicals and electrics no prob, but the engine work is new undiscovered land to me

If I read your post correctly you have the manifold but not the carbs,if that is so I would always go for SU's,easy to balance and tune+there are not a miriad of jets to worry about,I have no idea if needles and jets are still available.I used to have a Gunson balancer,if I can find it you can have it but a drinking straw will do the job.

Andy,

su's will not fit on the solex manifold you have. The best carbs for power would be webbers but they are very expensive. Dellortos are good for economy but again expensive. A set of 40 solex carbs would be much cheaper but are likely to take a little longer setting up.

Once you have them on and something like ok go down to Iain (huskyracer) to get them set properly (he did Foggys)

Dont go getting 45's for that manifold as tehy will not work.

So these intake manifolds are NOT for SU's?

What will fit?

Also is it worth fitting a 531 head then the twin carbs?

fitting the 531 , should make more power , twin 40 solexs do come up less than £100 on ebay - that is a risk tho.

SUs wont fit that manifold , theyre completely different design.

find some twin 40s whatever they may be , preferably webers if you can afford them , since most tuners have parts for em also .

Just a couple of questions....

1. What is a 531 head and what does it fit, why would this give more grunt?

2. When "sizing" twin carbs for a B21A, how do you go about selecting jet sizes etc??

Thanks

Scott
