Agree. As you are low mileage, it could be quite good value. Check the Volvo t&c against Warranty Direct and any others.

When mine was in for fix, the lady showed me some printout which she interpreted as would be fixed irrespective of age or mileage.

I'd speak to your dealer and ask them the question.

The most important factor is to maintain the Volvo service history. You then have a very good chance the 'free fix' will be honoured. Go Indy and they may decline.

I bought the 5 year service plan with the car, so will definitely have the full Volvo service history ( for another couple of years at least !! )

Got the extended warranty info from Volvo through the post just a few days ago - £345 for 1 extra year ( up to 60,000 miles ) which I thought was quite expensive. Haven't checked independant companies yet, but would need to make sure that EGR was covered by Indys.

I paid £399 for mine, firstly to keep up the resale value, but either way it was a no brainer for me.

You could stick a £1 a day in jar for such eventualities and hope you don’t need to raid anything really big!

Just about pay for a new inlet manifold when swirl flaps jam up due to heat distortion and soot build up

Yes, certainly. Get any independent warranty to conform in writing they will cover the EGR fault. That will focus the mind. Please report any responses, positive or negative.
I just wish Volvo would be more open and honest about the 'problem'.

Was there talk a few months back of someone getting the work done outside of warranty as a "goodwill gesture", or am I just hoping that I remember that ?

If this is what Volvo are doing, does anyone have a feel for how long after the 3 year anniversary they are likely to continue this, just a few weeks, or still at say the 4 year mark ?

Wondering if I should take out an extended warranty, but would rather not if the EGR issue was still going to be covered.
I can't see volvo washing their hands of it after 3 years ,They don't work like that , Almost certain to be extended help available if you get a problem .
