re poor running-when the ignition is switched on after car sitting overnight i notice the fuel pump buzzing.fair enough-but after running for a while then switching off and back on again i don't seem to hear pump priming-is this normal or should it only buzz after a longer period of being off???

Mine has always done this. I don't think it is related to poor running.
I used to think it was 'priming' to bring it up to pressure, but I now realise it doesn't work like that. When the engine is turning over the fuel pump relay receives a signal, which lets the pump run continuously. The momentary buzzing is simply an initial signal, which stops unless the relay gets confirmation that the engine is cranking. You can always eliminate any doubts about the signal to the relay by jumping fuses 4 and 6. That lets the pump run continuously. You can drive the car home like that, but it is not recommended as a permanent cure for safety reasons. |
