Well I'm really pleased so far.

I was recently a Land Rover Discovery Sport owner which suffered from awful build quality and an average of 37.4mpg over my ownership (2 cars, 14 months and 15K miles).

The XC90 has now done 1500 miles and an average of 36.2 mpg, a hugely more up market experience and a very happy owner.

Considering the size difference, I'm over the moon.

The Volvo had 14K on the clock when I bought it... that may make a difference of course.

about 6k miles now and still only around 25/26mpg mostly. Goes up to mid to high 30's on a motorway run.

99% of driving is inner m25 town traffic and i don't tread lightly off the line or roundabouts so i've given up looking.

LOL out the frying pan into the fire then if you read some of the threads in this forum

I decided not to get a LRDS due to the B pillar welding issues widely reported. Zero faith in that not being an issue in event of a side impact.

Done ~5,000 miles and average is 33.6 mpg. Many short journeys, occasional mid-length of ~30 miles and the odd long motorway trek.

I do think the XC90 would benefit in several ways from a larger engine. My old Merc which weighed the same as an XC90 had a 5 litre V8 petrol engine and could manage 32 mpg on a long run (okay, it was ~18 around town) but comparing that engine with the one in the XC90 (5 litre vs 2 litre, petrol vs diesel) you'd expect the '90 to be far better than it is. A small engine in a big car probably isn't a good idea.

I miss so badly big engined naturally aspirated old slush box bruisers. Seriously, every single one of these modern turbo based small engined things no matter what the manufacturer with some form of "intelligent" auto box thats optimised for MPG is just horrible.

Wonder if the GLE63 behaves itself

I'm at 31 mpg over the course of 1245km, but lately I've been doing a lot of town.

On the highway I have been doing 35mpg.

My average is now at 32mpg.

The car is really sensitive to inclines and speed, though... Small engine, heavy car, no way around that I guess.

The worst I have seen on the highway is 24mpg, the best 35. Most trips I have done 30mpg.
