Went inside the petrol station for 5 mins came back out, started her up and nothing!!! It sounded really bad when I stopped the car but now nothing. Could this be the same problem as highlighted here?

Thanks in advance for your help/advice.
When you say 'groaned while stationary', you mean without any steering inputs either ?
If you haven't, check your fluid level.
If you have, could be the above-mentioned issue.
If not, could be a faulty pump.

As always, start with the cheapest remedy.

I've got steering groan too - but that's 99% down to rack-rod balljoint wear (or if I'm implausibly lucky, a loose balljoint housing) because it's impossible to keep in a straight line and there's knocking from the rack.
With a bit of luck and a following wind (had a hot curry last night), I'll know by tonight.

Just took a closer look under the bonnet and it seems the reservoir is leaking from the bottom! Fluid levels seem ok...just need it to hold out until the weekend.

Cheers Dynosaur, was just typing when you replied. Think the reservoir could be goosed. Leaking from the bottom hose by the look of it.

It uses one or the other of red or green auto tranny fluid.
Call Volvo with your reg to find out which one it is.

It's been a while but thought I'd give you guys an update after all the help.....took the car to the wonderful people that are Trevor Burgess Volvo specialists in Hyde, Cheshire. Thankfully diagnosed that the hose had split and the securing ring had corroded hence the link.

Was so relieved and felt like kissing the receptionist!! For a change it wasn't as bad as first anticipated. Was made up.

A quick fix and steam clean later, it's back to it's best.

Hi All,

Ok i know this is an old thread but after some advice. My power steering pump has the same issue but what I wanted to ask is

Do I need to remove the power steering reservoir from the pump? Or can this be done while it’s still attached to the pump and car?
If so how do I remove it from the car?
Is the brass pipe located within the reservoir? Does anyone have any pictures?

Any help would be great

Andy
