If anybody's still looking at this thread, I thought I'd have a boast on what I've just spent on getting 2 new keys and transponders.
I got 2 brand new blips, still sealed, off Ebay from a guy in Sweden for £30 delivered. I then went on a call spree and called every Volvo dealer in Scotland for the best price on 2 new keys. The winner was Arnold Clark Stirling. I posted a cheque and a copy of my log-book on Tuesday and had our postie deliver the keys on Friday - 3 days later, all for the princely sum of £104.10. Around £25 cheaper than the next best quote as virtually every dealer wouldn't move on the list price (£58.50+vat). I then moved on to the cost of programming. I called my local dealer (Strathmore Volvo, Perth) which is only a 1 minute walk from work and asked for a cost for getting the car to recognise 1 new key and was told £30. I managed to get them down to £24 inc vat, mentioned that it wouldn't take any longer to do 2 and he agreed. Then I asked about the blips, and he said that wouldn't take much longer again. I turned up at 3:30, had a browse through the showroom and 40 minutes later left a happy man. Beakdown: 2 new keys £104.10 2 new blips £30 Reprogramming for the above £23.99 Total cost: £158.09 PLUS: a couple of fancy leather Volvo keyrings and a great coffee. Yesterday was a happy day! |
