Default D4 Engine running in?

Hi All,

I've had my V90 for 2 months now and drive the same route to and from work during the week. I have been logging the mpg on these journeys, just because well I'm interested!

Regardless of conditions driven this route I have averaged around 43 mpg +/- 1mpg. However over the last week this has increased significantly to 48 mpg, OK the weather is a little nicer, but seems like a huge step. Have others experienced this, does this engine suddenly bed in? I would have expected it to take much longer than this but perhaps that assumption is incorrect!

Cheers,

Another V60.

It's the weather, the D4 engine does not perform well in sub 5C temps. The EU emissions test is conducted at quite high ambient temeratures, so engines are designed to perform well within that range. Also anti waxing additives are partly to blame. My D4 suffers around a 20% drop in economy during very cold weather compared to warm summer conditions. Our Ka Sportage only drops around 10%.
