Default 01 vs 02 B5244

Hello everyone,

I am new to the volvo car world and fairly new to this site. I have a few questions that i couldn’t seem to locate any information on. I acquired an 01 s60 2.4t (tranny issues) and an 02 s60 2.4t (blown head gasket). I stripped down the 02 and took the head into a machine shop andfound out it was warped pretty bad.

So i decided that i would just take the engine out of the 01 and put it in the 02. They were the same engine, B5244T, so i thought to myself, no big deal everything should be the same. Well, as i have gotten further into pulling the engine out of the 01 I have noticed a few differences and need to know if these engines are interchangeable and what needs to be done to do so.

So far i have noticed that the throttle plate is completely different, the VVT valve has a different solenoid/actuator on it (looks like the same plate), the thermostat housing is different and a few other random items.

Can I iust swap out intakes (i have an intake gasket but no throttle plate gasket) and VVT valve so it will hook up to the harness from the 02? Or should I leave the engine alone and swapped harness/ECU?
