Simple then.

Take it back for warranty repair.

Either they accept it as a warranty job or they have to admit it was repaired and therefore not eligible for warranty. If they admit a repair then you have the garage on the ropes so they will fix it.

Provided it was supplied by a main dealer of course.....

It was.
Purchased in Scotland and I brought it back to N. Ireland

Same here! - Alfa 159, must have taken a ding on the bumper at the docks, bad smart repair, lacquer started lifting. Warranty fix.

Back in 1988 to 9 alfa 33's were left in a field in Italy for 18 months before being delivered to the UK , The rust was well set in by the time the new owners picked them up .

Thanks for the help with this - took it up to the local dealer today and they agreed it was a sloppy respray.
Getting it resolved under warranty.
