Did we get the diesel with 4 spd +OD in the UK?

Did the UK market get the M46 gearbox (4 speed plus overdrive) mated to the D24T diesel engine? I want to experiment if I can mate a VW diesel lump to an old M45 (upgrading it with stronger bits from the M46 if possible too), as there's no room for an overdrive or 5 speeder for a few reasons...

And if we did get that in the UK - does anyone have one they'd part with?

Hi, I bought a brand new 744 GLTDi with the D24T engine and it came with the M46 gearbox mate...

The C202 doesn't have the portal axles that the C303 has - these ones are conventional Salisbury or Dana axles, similar to series Landy.

Here's my project thread with a bit more info, I really ought to update it as I've got a lot of it stripped down now!

Also similar to Jeep Cherokee and i believe Hummer as well. After all, the Hummer was developed for the US military by AMC who owned Jeep at the time, hence both the Jeep and the Hummer having that vertical 7-slot grille.
Jeep called their axles "Trac-Lok" but in English, that's Dana/Salisbury Powrlok, very similar to the axles in the 7/9xx.

I had assumed the Hummer/Humvee had portals...

A portal axle is a normal axle with portal units at each end. These are gearboxes which lower the drive, allowing the centre line of the axle to sit above the centre line of the wheels, massively increasing ground clearance as the diffs tend to be the lowest point.

Google it and the Volvo C303 axles which fetch very strong money second hand and it'll hopefully be clear. Pinzgauers, and I think UNIMOG use them too.

Bit of clarification - the Hummer and "Humvee" do have portal axles as i just discovered when i looked them up on Wikipedia, the Jeep Cherokee has a live axle similar to the 7/9xx estates and uses the same 1041/1030/1031 diffs as the Volvo.

I suppose i could have crawled under the fence next door and had a look at a Humvee - might have ended up looking at the business end of an M16 instead though!
