Default New Car - Detail-ing

OK, New XC60 (see below) arrives in 3 weeks...!

I've heard some people talk about not getting the dealer to polish it, but having it detailed with a *special* wax/finish.

As this is a 4 year lease car, any advice? - Obviously I want it to look good, stay looking good and not pay a fee at the end of the lease - but as I'm not selling in 4 years time, is this worth the effort/cost for only 4 years ownership?

Why not ask the same question on the Detailing World forum?

OK, take into consideration the inevitable 'don’t let the dealer touch it' bias, but you can expect to receive some useful comments/good advice.

I'm going through the same thinking with delivery on 14th September. Mine is a business lease for 3 years. On balance I'm not going with detailing this time. If was going to buy it out after 3 years and take it for another 3 years then I think it would be worth it. However, as I'm most likely to let it go after 3 I don't think detailing is required. It won't affect residual value through normal wear and tear. It would look very nice though!

I am a very keen amateur detailer, but have had the pleasure of working foc with a proffessional guy who agreed to train me in return for my labour.
He specialised in high value cars for the main part, footballers etc, but also more regular cars such as ours.
This is the advice he would impart. He had never seen a well applied coating done by a car dealership, ever! They dont understand, have the time for , or the expertise to properly prepare a vehicle for coating.
The coatings offered by dealerships are very basic and are nothing more than cash cows.
The other thing to consider is that ,when you receive your brand new pride and joy, the paint will not be fully cured, this process will continue for up to 3 months (Audi) aftere you take delivery. So any expensive coating along with the required paint correction should not ideally be applied at the point of sale. Just a few thoughts.
