I've never understood why they even limit the speeds
Apart from Germany, you'll automatically lose your license at anything over 100 so why bother limiting them at 150+? Either limit them all at 100 (bar Germany) or leave them all unlimited.....150 just seems a weird number

FunkyMelon - 150 (155) goes for "gentelmans agreement" by german manufacturers that decided to limit their max speeds to 250Kmh it order to not compete by max speed but by power/handling. I think back then all brands except for Porsche agreed on that, and now it just continues. I think new M3's are still limited unless you request limiter taken off (part of sport pack or something) and GTR35's are/used to be limited based on GPS system (if race track was detected by onboard GPS it was taking all limiters off). Its all to show "yes we are responsible manufacturer blah blah blah" but truth is taking any of that off is just a formality. But as you said, except for Germany its rather pointless, I dont care whether Im restricted at 250 or not

I drive through germany quite a bit and the only times I have had people driving at that speed is around the Nürburgring where all the m's and amg's come out to play and everyone just tagged onto one big group flying along which was cool.

Yeah, great in theory, but spoilt when you need to stop for fuel every 20 minutes and new tyres every hour and a half

What is also interesting is the same engine in S80 configuration is tweaked to 231bhp and 340 N/m... with 6th gear set as a 'pure overdrive ratio' Quote:

Still amazes me how eager even my standard T5 wants to haul you into 3 figures.
Naughty numbers come up very easily. Does anyone else have drivers of new Diesel Mercs/BMW's try to keep up with your progress and then sort of back off and hide away with embarrassment? happens to me regularly, I think they can't quite believe how a 14 year old car is able to do it
