Why does the D5 R-Design on 21" wheels feel a lot more compliant/fluid than the T8 Inscription on 20" wheels - is it the extra weight from the hybrid batteries and motors? With the guesstimate that the T8 and D5 combustion engines roughly weigh the same?

That's the fun part about an opinion, everyone has a different one.

To be honest I am not sure. It has been the subject of too many discussions with my wife. The XC60 is low mileage, has been faultless apart from one seat module cover that has come adrift, no bodywork marks, just a couple of stone chips. The default option would be to get a third part mechanical and electrical warranty and run it for another few years. There are many different makes of cars that would suit now that our children are all grown up so we may swap it about a bit this time around as jobs and lifestyle has changed. Although I would like a refined but full throated, fire breathing, beast for myself, I fear to take my wife around the different forecourts because on paper many cars could do what we need and I fear I could end up with a Citroen Cactus, the only car with the pricks on the outside.

Ofcourse. But incidentally, literally all automotive journalists of today seem to share my opinion about new Volvo interiors.. Don’t forget that Robin Page, former Bentley interior designer, was brought to Volvo specifically to up the game.
The result is evident. Not to say that this was a poor design:

What was the second image?
Also any thoughts on my previous post? Had a look on Volvo UK The Inscription Pro only comes with either 20" or 22" Whereas the R-Design Pro comes with either 21" or 22" Would be nice to drive an R-Design Pro T8 with 21" wheels and see how that handles compared to my Inscription Pro T8 with 20" wheels.

The plastic quality in certain locations does seems harder and thinner, lots of movement in the centre console on both the cars I tried, although the seat module cover has finally been improved after who knows how many decades of the same design so there is a plus. The tech on both that I tried kept on resetting and would only remember a few of the stored changes from the default setting. I can understand why they are mimicking the way a phone operates on the touch screen but it’s a pain to operate when on the move. It is also slow to load and laggy, even more so that the V40 we have and that you have to wait for before you can reverse out of the drive because the rear-view camera and cross traffic sensors seem to be the last thing to start working. Edit: It is far better than some of the competition, especially the drive by iPad look in the Merc.

@ your previous post- I suppose it must be the extra weight + the lack of torque at the rear (electric quasi AWD clearly cannot keep up with the hp/torque of the ICE engine..) @id5: true, the central screen takes some time to adjust to- but after you used the car for some time it becomes natural, believe me. The tablet-like interface is much more user friendly than widescreen. Steering wheel buttons in combo with voice commands do most of the job while driving- so no distraction whatsoever.. As for lagginess- it’s not general but rather related to what apps one uses and to internet connectivity. I have removed all but the factory installed apps and use all media apps (Spotify, TuneIn..) through Apple CarPlay- and I’ve never experienced any issues/lagginess with Sensus..

Mine can be quite floaty & crashy at the same time where the D5 R-Design Pro I am driving now (loan car) with 21" wheels as standard handles completely differently!

I do not have anything to compare to, never driven any other Volvos, but compared to my last car an AMG GLA 45 it Cleary is not as good road holding or handling, but that said it is better than I was expecting it to be, little more body roll of course, but you can corner and drive it pretty quick, I do not even find the steering a problem, lighter than the AMG, but positive and never thinking where it is or what it is going to do next. On the plus side it is a much more comfortable ride than the AMG for sure. I have read the posts in this thread, but there is no base line only peoples opinions, which is really not a guide for compare. I might add, I was rather surprised how good the 21" wheels were noise and tramline wise was expecting them to be far worse, I had 19" winters on AMG, I have 19" winters on XC60 and drive is slightly worse as higher walled etc. but still surprisingly good for what a T8 is. I have it set in low ride height and stiffer suspension ride in my most used mode "individual" I have made for myself. If there is a difference of ride height and stiffness in a T8 between DP and Inscription that would make a fair bit of difference
