'97 V70 T5 Brake warning light
I've just paid my local 'specialist' to fit my new EBC front pads today and check the rear brake shoes (as the car is new to me) and, upon driving it home (the long, traffic free route) I noticed that the Brake Warning Light was illuminated on the dash. Any idea why this might be ?
I rang him as soon as I noticed and he wants me to 'pop it back in' in the morning.... |

Hej,
as a ´97 V70 got no breakewear warning, or stuff like that, I would assume you now got a problem with the ABS. May be, the `specialist`broke some wiring during installation of the pads. Hej Hej Gernot

Are you Motronic 4.3 or 4.4? 97 was the changeover year iirc. Either way, read the ABS codes (flash code reader or any OBD-II reader) and you'll get some good clues as to what the problem may be.

Brake warning light (red) and ABS light (orange) are two different things - the red brake warning light is usually down to low fluid level or handbrake on?

Is it the brake warning light or abs light?
There are no wear sensors on the pads so must be the handbrake warning light if it's the red light, this means the handbrake is still on...or it's low on fluid, possible if the 'specialist' removed some fluid before pushing the caliper pistons back. If it's the abs light they must have disturbed or damaged a wheel sensor... Let them sort it then find someone else to do any work Last edited by volvo again; Feb 19th, 2019 at 09:30. |

To be clear there is the:
Handbrake light: Red with a "P" activated by a switch on the handle. Brake Warning Light: Red with a "!" activated by the fluid being too low or the wear sensors on an ex police car (where fitted). ABS light: Yellow/Orange activated by the ABS ECU - read the fault codes. TRACS (up to 99) / STC (99 onwards): Yellow/Orange activated either with a fault - read the codes. Or when you press the switch to turn it off.
