Tow Bar Electrics
Apologies, another question about electrics!
I wonder if anyone might be able to point me in the right direction. I have a 1993 850 Estate (GLT). When I connect up the caravan to the car the fog light on the van is 'on', even though the fog lights on the car are 'off'. The car does have it's side lights permanently 'on' (just to annoy non-Volvo drivers off course!). Anyone encountered this before or can suggest where I should investigate first?? Thanks, John

Hi John,
you dont say if all the other lights on the van are working ok, i would follow the live feed from the fog light back to the plug on the van and check which pin it is connected too, make sure its not been connected with the side lights, I have a Caravan wiring Diagram that i have scanned up but it is too large to attach, if you would like a copy, let me have your email address & i will forward it, Best holidays going caravaning.

John,
It may be you need to rewire (slightly) your 'N' socket. The blue wire was origanlly a permanent live to the caravan, but on later 'vans it is used for the rear fog light. If you have an early wired socket to a later caravan the fog lamp will be on. I can't remeber when things changed, but if you are stuck I'll check the haynes caravan manual and let you know the dates and what pins do what. Gary |
