It is Volvo part number 1346329
It is Volvo part number 1346329 - peculiar to the B230ET - and I've just scored one off ebay which might or might not work but will let me see how to get mine out to put new thermal paste in if possible. They are still available new from Volvo but at a horrifying price.

Thanks Luke, as i suspected then - power stage is a complete misnomer! Resistor pack it is, one feed in from +12V, 4 feeds out to the injectors to power them.
Some injectors have a lower voltage coil and a lower resistance as a result. There is a theory that this makes them switch between closed/open and vice versa quicker than the 12V injectors with less residual magnetism and heat.

Not mine!
No, the bit I am talking about is the Volvo part number as stated. People seem to call it an ECU but I am fairly sure it is not an ECU. Here is an example - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLVO-740...kAAOSws3lc4wJb

Found that pic on Volvopartswebstore, seems to give a clue or three as to how it's mounted.

If memory serves, it's a Luxor item which i think was a subsidiary of Regina.
However it has no control ability/function, it's simply an amplifier, similar to the ignition amplifier module for the coil but it's a 4 channel thing that switches high current injectors instead. To that end, it's not an ECU (Electronic Control Unit) but is definitely a "black box of mystery". Probably just 4 Darlington pairs set up to switch the injectors for the ECU.

Clarity ensues!
There is no resistor pack on my car - I have checked.
There were three of the relevant gadget on ebay - one untested currently in course of post to me. If that does not go I will buy one or both of those other two. And the current (oh, funnee pun) analysis appears to indicate that it is NOT an ECU and so will not need reprogramming when moved from car to car. And IDK who made the item but the system on the car is Motronic - it says so on a big sticker. Now let us hope that when I put that bit in with a correct smear of thermal paste to aid heat dissipation, that stops the problem! GF is getting quite arsey about going places in that car and I refuse to drive my sport until some body damage is sorted (too ashamed). And my 960 is very poorly. And my other sport has a misfire we have been after for 6 years - there is a VERY long thread on here about it. Before I had Volvos I might have had a hobby!

no
You crackers are never going to fix problems if you don't know what you're dealing with in the first place.
If you want proper info , refer to the green books. Post photos and don't assume stuff listed on ebay is correct. I have a complete set of green books, if you need any wiring diagrams ask. Thermal paste is available for computer chips on ebay for a few quid. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5g-High-Q...frcectupt=true
