Xc90 not starting/stuck in p

Hi,newbe here,xc90 not starting a few weeks ago,bypassed starter circuit all ok for a while then decided to get stuck in P .Checked the contol ecu yup you guessed it corrosion on pins etc,brought a second unit & fitted but no joy still not starting but came out of park.Supplier is saying it needs to be programmed to the new vehicle,is that correct!

I would think the ECU will need programming most electronic parts need to be programmed to the individual car.
