Default Car does not start back up from on/off

My XC60 started with this problem around 4-5 months ago. Basically, when the car is in off mode from on/off, it just doesn’t always start back up. It has been into my local dealer and they can’t find anything. No fault has been recorded by vehicle so the car does not identify it as an issue. It’s intermittent so dealer can’t repair as they have no idea what it is. The first error message was an ESC message but after it had been into the dealer the error changed to ‘restart’ engine. I have to put car into park and restart it. It’s an accident waiting to happen and the service all round has been poor. This is not what I purchased a Volvo for! Any Field Engineers that may know?

I could be way off the mark here but i've heard there is a software update that's meant to be done during servicing to fix certain problems on the later Volvos, it could be that this wasn't done during your last service or perhaps not done correctly.

Might be worth asking the garage that last serviced it if they did the update - if not, why not and what are they going to do about it?

What do you mean by on/off?

You mean stop start when the engine stops when the car stops, that it doesn't restart when you accelerate or press the clutch (if a manual).

Usually if its not going to restart it tells you, I (think) this happens if you remove the seatbelt or open a door.

Do you get any other spurious warnings for doors, seatbelts, handbrake etc.?

Short term fix, is if you run around in dynamic mode it wont stop.

Chief Inspector - it’s an Auto and I mean the stop/start. I go to accelerate and there is nothing. No warning it’s going to do it or anything. I don’t really want to switch the start/stop off; the planet needs all the help it can get 😀

Is the auto hold in use? Green lamp on the button behind the parking brake?
