Replaced ignition switch and coil. Starter not powered...
Just replaced the ignition switch and coil on my 64 amazon wagon. Everything os great except there is no power to the starter so it seems. I wired the green wire under the dash that was connected to a push button starter switch to terminal 50 on my new ignition switch. Terminal 30 is getting power from the battery. 75 is going to accessories and 15 is going to the coil. All other electrical is working and powered up just fine but when i turn the switch to engage starter i get any ideas where I should start looking?? The car started fine a few weeks ago with a screwdriver turning the broken ignition switch and using the push button starter.

Thanks Ron. Hmmm....so everywhere I look it says terminal 50 goes to the starter..and this switch doesnt have a terminal 54...in fact none of the switches I have seen have a terminal 54.
http://www.bosch-classic.com/en/inte...23090xx_1.html Thats the switch I am using and its got terminals 30, 75, 50 and 15. How would I wire this switch up? |

On that Bosch Ign Sw, supply power to mom. Start Sw from terminal 75. Cheers |

Doesnt that show that the R position is triggered by 75? This PDF has the Bosch terminal assignments that I followed.... Last edited by DaWhole9; Mar 2nd, 2020 at 02:39. |

Hey Ron, just got what you were saying, if I was using the push button starter I could wire it to 75. I want to remove the push button starter and go with JUST the keyed ignition switch if possible.

Update:
I had the day off so I thought I would poke my head around and see if I could find out a few things. I popped the switch out from the dash and grabbed the digital multimeter just to verify I was getting 12v out from all the terminals with the key in the appropriate position....well waddayaknow, terminal 50 which powers the starter motor has no voltage when the key is turned. OK...pull that wire and hold it against the 12v from the battery...that should turn the starter motor...and yup! So its a bad switch. Ordered a new ignition switch and we will see if we can get it all fired up when it arrives this weekend. |
