we've seen lots of these fail. we tend to recommend to change the aux belt & tensioner every 3 years. mine is coming up to 6 years now, will be getting it done if we are out of lockdown when its due, having the hybrid 2.4 means the kit is really expensive too |

I am a little puzzled by the talk of expensive damage being caused if the aux belt breaks, on other vehicles you would lose power steering, battery charging, air conditioning and possibly the water pump, but none of these would instantly cause damage. What is it that the aux belt drives on the Volvo that causes such expensive repairs to be needed (unless you carried on driving despite the myriad of warning lights and no power steering until it overheats)?

In my experience there is a 20% chance of getting away with it !. but following the revised service recommendations 5 years ago will ensure it's ok .

There are no paper service sheets anymore since around 2015 , they are generated in VIDA from the cars details when the booking is finalised .

If you go through the service booking proceedure at the link below it gives you a list of service items included for your car. Very useful for getting anidea of pricing before you go ahead with anything.

Ah I can see that would be bad, other vehicles I have had experience of tended to have a fairly secure cover over the timing belt to stop anything getting caught in it.
