My new XC40 (11/03/2020) demonstrates the creaking noise from the front brakes as described by others. Ymc30’s description as being like the Incredible Hulk holding me back then suddenly letting go is exactly the sensation I’m encountering.
Had it not been for the closure of my dealership because of the lockdown, I would have had the car back to be looked at already. |

I also have a MY17 XC90 and the auto brake on that is totally smooth.

Auto-hold gotcha
We've had our XC40 D4 R-Design since mid-March. On the whole, very happy with it.
Yes, the auto-hold does sometimes make a slight graunching noise, but nothing that would worry me. Maybe thread drift, but....With start/stop and auto-hold activated, sitting in a queue at B&Q last week. Engine had stopped. It suddenly started, as it does with s/s from time to time. The car immediately rolled forward a couple of feet as I'd left it in Drive (maybe I shouldn't have done, but I thought that was the idea?); fortunately the auto-hold stopped it before the car ahead got a surprise - or would the City Safety have braked if necessary? I was never keen on start/stop, so now I just don't use it if I'm using auto-brake. Just something else to have to think about! |
