I did say.

Well done though mate, you're getting to the point where it only needs driving.

When I bought mine, 2 years ago, I hung onto my old car for 3 weeks and did absolutely everything including belts and full service on the 90 .

It was worth it.

Fortunately on mine, the previous owner had just spent over £700 on control arms and front and rear discs/pads a few weeks before I bought it

Hi, but make sure you use a good reputable indie!

You want one that is at least as capable as yourself. Years ago I would always maintain my own cars, but the years makes this far more difficult.

My mistake when my old indie retired and I used what was supposed to be a reputable garage. After a month with the car it became apparent that they had caused more damage than original.

I did find another reliable and expert indie, albeit 30 mins drive, who thankfully took the car on and sorted it... But the cost!

I am sure you will not make the same mistake but others might....

I'm at the point in life where anything too gnarly or heavy goes to the dealer - I'm getting too old to crawl about under cars now, and if I couldn't afford it now and again then a complex, 2.25 tonne luxury SUV is the wrong car for me.

And it's always the dealer. They have the latest software, the latest technical bulletins, the 2 year guarantee on parts, and (most importantly for me) this forum is littered with examples of folk who have spent ££££'s at an independent, only to have to give in and take it to the dealer anyway - that's an expensive way to try and save a few quid.

Overall, I have to completely agree DD but I'm fortunate to have this lot within easy striking distance of Durham City.

They know Volvos inside out and never ever suggest work that is not needed.

With exceptions like this the old adage, Use it or loose it springs to mind. 👍

Are the V70 control arms a pain, i need both doing on mine and been putting it off as it looks quite involved?
