Judging by the timing of the posts you didn’t wait for any replies to your question.
Shame about the breakage, was it the proposed replacement that you broke?
At least you will now be able to see how it is assembled.

Thanks for that Dave
My connectors are in the same place as yours so I would also have to modify. I've found a couple with connectors and backing that would just clip in for a tenner more so I might do that instead. I've also put out a couple of feelers to the incredibly friendly and helpful chaps on the forum to see if someone might have a good original quality one

That was the impatient bit that kicked in Ian That followed by the heavy handedness was a recipe for disaster

It was the spare one though so I still have glass but it doesn't demist or defrost

They say patience is a virtue Mark.
Guess I was just lucky. I was most relieved once I had done it.
Best of luck with it.

Indeed Ian I was actually undoing the clips but the glass broke when I pressed to hard in one corner so I could see in behind glass

Whilst we are discussing wing mirror replacement mirrors. A general enquiry .....

Has anyone seen in their searches replacement heated mirrors for the older type wing mirror mentioned above fitted to 740's and early 940's that are freed/installed by using a screw driver through a hole underneath the mirror housing/casing?

They have an entirely different plastic ring fitting on the back plate and associated motor drive compared with the more modern ones. I have failed to find reasonably priced, if any, replacements for some years now but, if anybody knows different I would be useful to know.

Bob

They're NLA from all sources as far as i'm aware Bob, you can fit the later "snap ring" style mirror glasses but you also need the later type motor. Best compromise is what i did with the later mirror glass without backing plate, peel your old one off with the aid of a heat gun from the original "screwdriver lever lock" and then clean it with IPA or similar to remove all traces of the original glue then fit the new one - a bit of warmth from the heat gun then clamp it gently until cool helps as well.
