New tyres, XC90 MY20
Hello all,
just got my new XC90 B5 a month ago, but as the nerd I am, I already started looking into winter and summertires. Currently I have 275/35-22 Pirelli Scorpion Verde on, which is actually ok. I've read several places, that new tires has to be marked "VOL", as new Volvos are sensitive to new tires? Can anyone confirm? Or anyone has some experiences with tires not being branded "VOL" ? Best regards Jacob |

It is not essential. You can fit any brand of tyre so long as it meets specification re size, weight and speed rating.
The VOL mark simply tells you that it is 'approved' by Volvo not that it is the only tyre you can use. Some folk like to have everything on their vehicle as OEM.

I also have 275/35R22 Pirelli 'VOL' tyres. When I came to winter I ordered a set of wheels from Volvo dealer for £1400.
They were 235/55R19 Dunlop winter sport 5 tyres on 10 spoke Turbine Silver wheels 19 inch. https://accessories.volvocars.com/en...0AWD/Automatic is the page for your car. Went for the 19s to keep the profile smaller. Also easier to get chains as we go to the Alps each year. (Never had to use the chains as the Dunlops are great in the snow.)

Have a look on some of the tyre places online, blackcircles, oponeo & others.
When I was researching the costs of XC90 ownership I checked these sites, I put the car registration in and the ones that are OEM have a little Volvo logo next to them.

May be wrong but I seem to remember that the tyres marked' VOL' (certainly for my Pirelli) also have a chunk of acoustic foam installed in them - like I say may be wrong but when had a centre tread puncture repaired they said they'd had to cut a small section of the foam out the reglue it in place once the bung was fitted

All Season
Can I just show my ignorance but when you have all season tyres available like Michelin Cross Climates why are you still swapping Summer and Winter tyres over?

Having said that, all-season tyres are fine for much of the UK, especially the further south you are, but in hilly parts of northern England and Scotland their relative weakness can show up. Also, if you drive to the Alps in winter, proper winter tyres are best. Note also that not all all-season tyres have the the 3-mountain and snowflake symbols which specify that they're suitable for areas where winter tyres are compulsory. CrossClimates do have these symbols however.
