PV bonnet spring
I bought a PV544 last year in a disassembled state. I have had several Amazons so I did not think this would be a problem but the bonnet raising device is proving a challenge. All I had was a spring, which may not be correct and I cobbled the rest together but it does not work. Any help or pictures would be appreciated.

This might help. 3, 4, 5 are, I think, for the lower spring retainer.

there are two types of bonnet hinge. Does yours come through the front pannel or is it like this.

Thank you Derek and Arcturus for your help. The picture shows a straight bar welded onto the hinge assembly whereas mine has a right angle bend in it. I will straighten this out and see if it works any better. It is a 1961 car with the bonnet hinge passing through slots in the front panel. I did try and upload pictures but failed.

I have straightened out the rod and the mechanism now works as it should although the spring becomes coil bound before the bonnet closes, perhaps it is the wrong spring. The rod has a slot in it and the spring appears to be constrained by a pin top and bottom, if I remove the top pin I can close the bonnet. At least it now works even if not as Volvo intended.
