Diagnostics >Vehicle Communication >REM (from the overhead vehicle diagram) >Parameters and bring up the fuel tank level readings to check that they're credible.
On my S60 with a saddle tank, there are left and right side readings which should match and add up to a credible total of what's in the tank.

When I fill up the tank the petrol gauge reads 1/2 full even though the tank appears to be completely full. Vida says the Left Petrol Tank has 14L and the Right Tank has 3L. The gauge reads 1/4 full. What do you think I need to do to rectify the fault please? |

Sounds like the right float is jammed. The right side of the tank is the last to drain.
Run your tank to less than 1/4 and have a look to see if it’s jammed, easier said than done! The access panel is under the rear seat base, one side (I can’t remember which) is accessible with the seat base up, the other needs the seat back taking out. Disconnect battery. Careful about sparks, you’ll have petrol vapour around, make sure the car is well ventilated. Locate black panel on the floor and remove it. That gives access to the tank access locking ring. These can be a pain in the bum to remove without the proper tool. I managed with 2 large screwdrivers braced against earth other. Once the ring is off, the pump and float should lift, careful it’s connected to the other side with cables and the fuel transfer piping. Don’t know if there’s enough slack on the cable to lift the pump out, but you should be able to inspect it to see if the float is jammed. I’ll look for a thread on pump replacement which will guide you through the necessary steps. It’s actually about water in a diesel tank, but most steps will be applicable I’m sure. Thanks for all the detail, it's great! What do I need to look for to see if the right float is jammed please?

If I remember when I changed the pump on mine it would snag the float if the pump wasn’t oriented correctly. Wonder if your car has had a replacement pump at some point?
I think the float arm is visible when you lift the pump a couple of inches. Otherwise lift it out and put it back in, it feels obvious if it snags from memory (about 6 years ago!) |

With Vida showing the live tank level data from both sides, my first step would be to give the bottom of the tank some hits with a rubber mallet.
You may get lucky and free something and the data will confirm success or not. Delving into the tank itself would be something I'd avoid unless absolutely necessary.
