brake pads
hi i've to change my brake pads not done this before got my haynes manual it tells me i will need a special tool its the rear brake pads what tools will i need ? s40 1.8 petrol 98 thanks callum

I believe it is called a caliper wind-in tool, which is available from any motor factor or even (gulp) Halfords.
Some people have modified existing tools or used a large flat blade screwdriver, but I would advise getting the right tool for the job. |

what tools
hi can you tell me what tools other than a flat blade screwdriver will i need any other spanners etc ? i don't have a lot of tools just want to know exactly what i need in case i need to buy anything?

Having not done the job myself on my Volvo I couldn't say with any great certainty. You may end up spending more money on tools than if you just got your local garage to fit the pads.

I replaced the 'special tool' with a pair of long nosed pliers - just open them, put the ends in the recesses and push and twist. Make sure you loosen the cap of the brake fluid dubrey in the engine bay...

as stated by previous replies, pliers etc can be utilized, a pair or mole grips with a steel strip in the jaws can also be used, the key factor being, you must turn whilst pushing the piston in at the same time. view the above post. paul |
