Hello guys,

My 08 V50 has just started acting up with the same temperature sensor problem. I have pulled out the rubber plug on the car side but there doesn't seem to be a connector in there? Were the later cars modified? Is it possible to open the connector on the door side and clean it?

Any help would be appreciated!

It won't be the connectors as they are now gold plated from 2007 , cleaning them may rub off the gold and cause problems . The connector block is in the hinge area just above the check strap . I would look at the mirror connectors and eliminate the sensor by replacing it , about £11 .
The mirror plug , plugs into the electric window motor ( PDM ) sometimes water can get in that connector .

Thanks for the info.

I think it may be damp as this happened twice after very heavy rain. How big a job is it to strip the door? Might open the connector and put some Lanotec on it to repel the water & corrosion.

Fixed for the moment so maybe just cross my fingers!

This could be a mighty thread resurrection. I have a new to me 2011 V50 and I am currently experiencing this issue. From the post by Clan above my year should not really have this problem!? Typical!

I have unplugged the connector a few times, applied dielectric grease and can confirm they are male gold connectors in the door, though they look silver in the female side on the car. No change.

I then had a look at the sensor in the mirror, I hooked up a multi meter and could see the reading go up and down in response to warming and cooling the sensor which says to me that is working.

I should add I have no other issues with the door.

I am keen to know if there is by this point a well known fix?

My plan of action is to take the door card off and check for any corrosion on any plugs leading to the sensor as described in this thread, because I can do that for free. Then I think it has to be to replace the sensor for £20 (official from Volvo) to eliminate that as a potential issue.

At that point i'll be off to the specialist as my car needs a new condenser (due to damage) and I only really want to get the ac sorted once the ambient air temp is working properly or it may give issue to the climate system.

So if there is any more information out there I would be all ears! Thanks

It seems to me that the sensor itself doesn't fail but the wiring connector within the door causes resistance/poor contact - that's definitely my problem that occurs a couple of times a month, my 'fix' is a swift bang on the door card near the 'leccy window switches then ignition on/off and the then it shows the correct temp.

I've always intended to remove the door card at some point and potentially solder the wires or something but as I can get over the issue as above I always put the job on the back burner....

You're right though it does affect the climate control.

Thanks Welton, I certainly am inclined to think it is not the sensor for me and despite having the gold connectors I still get a dicky reading. Yesterday it was working much better but still would be random at where it started.

I think my next step will be to take the door card off and have a play around in there.

To be honest as the car is new to me, i'm happy to pay to get it fixed right and if a new loom is the answer I would just go ahead and do it, but it's the annoying uncertainty around what will actually fix the issue that is so frustrating!

Ironically I never had this issue with my first V50 7 years ago. A 2005 with 40,000 more miles than my current 2011 car! you'd have thought by 2011 all these niggles would have been ironed out! I think I will also make a visit to my local specialist and see if he has a straight up solution after all these years. I need him to do the air con condenser regardless so will ask his opinion on the temp issue
