pulle/Timing B200F..1991
Hi Guys, Going out one morning and a mile from home the cam belt slipped off
and stuck behind the distributor cog,,,,ok so no damage done get new belt and tensioner.....!! The main pulley after replacing has a slight wobble {harmonic pulley}so need a new one,,timing a bit out also BUT,,im looking for the keyway that fits the main shaft to keep it in line with the pulley,,,Any suggestions,,??? spoke to Simon at brookhouse and there telling me it doesent need one...and to get the timing right i think i do...Any help please..Regards,, Adrian. |

The key is built into the timing pulley. You do not need a separate one.
There is a lump and notch to align the harmonic balancer with the pulley. If you haven't aligned them and bolted the balancer on, that might account for the wobble. |

thanks for the info and yes i agree with the photo,,,but mine has no notch to line up with,,,,so do i need a new cog..? tried uploading photo but not working...

Just had a thought,, How to remove old cog from main shaft..??? would be most helpfull,,,,,cheers in advance>>>ADRIAN..

The only thing holding it on is the harmonic balancer. It should just pull off once you've removed that.

Timing
Hi crogthomas,,Thanks for the info,, but.. i have one last question,New pulley and cog fitted and lined up to all marks with new cambelt,,BUT,, still jumps when pressing accelerator,,, my mechanic friend is asking at what degree/s do we set timing at, so we can adjust distributor..? ..or is it something else..? thanks again in advance,,,,, Adrian. p.s. Wobble gone,,,lol.

If the belt persistently jumps off the pulley then something is misaligned.
When you fitted the belt, did you rotate the engine several turns by hand, watching carefully at each pulley to check that the belt was running straight and not creeping off-centre? Did you remember to re-tighten the nut holding the tensioner after releasing it? It doesn't just hold the tensioner spring position, it also secures the tensioner assembly to the block. If the roller can wobble it throws the belt off. |

Pulley timing
Yes guys all was in line and belt and cog all correct.. my mechanic friend is going to put strobe on it this week to check it......he did ask when i last changed the plugs which are on the way.....will let you know how I get on unless you can think of anything else ..cheers Adrian
