Default 2000 (new shape) V70 2.4 (140 bhp) Automatic Vibration...

Hi

No matter what gear the auto box is in, when I accelerate at 1600-2000 rpm (in a manner not to cause the box to change down )there is noticeable resonance noise (almost like its the exhaust) and slight vibration.

Any ideas?

Does this vibration come through the pedals, steering wheel, or where. There is a 'known' problem with many models from 1999. The fix is a stiffer set of engine sub frame bushes and can be done under warranty if you have kept up the Volvo service record book.

The vibration comes through the pedals and steering wheel. Is there a particular range of engine or chassis numbers that are affected by this 'known' problem?

I just sold a 2001 auto V70 and this was one of the reasons why !

Another reason was the standard wheel / tyre combination (225/45R18), giving appalling turning circle, chronic winter grip and rough ride for a family car !!!

I previously had a 97 V70 auto which was a terrific car, shame the new shape doesn't live up to this standard. Too much Ford in it I suppose.

Good luck with the uprated engine mounts - my Volvo dealer didn't see fit to offer this solution.

This is all I know about the problem:

"The mod is to replace the front engine subframe bushes for stiffer ones. You also need new bolts because they are the stretch type. This mod applies to all large platform cars from a very low chassis range on 1999 to 2004 variants but only in case of customer complaint. It appears some cars are affected more than others. Please note below that one bush is different and needs to be fitted in the correct place.

Order the stiffer sub frame bushing kit P/N 30671167
The kit includes ; 3 Round bushes
1 Oval bush, assemble at right rear of sub frame
4 Screws
The service solution bushes are identified with a red marking.
Install sub frame bush kit according to instructions in VADIS."

Any Volvo dealer should be able to find full details of this 'problem'on their VADIS.
