Air condition
Hello all
1st i want to apollogise for my bad english.. Im Portuguese. Well i bought a volvo 850 GLT 2.0 Turbo and im starting to fix somee problems with the car. One of the problems i cant fix because i dont know the reason is the air contition system. I´m gonna try to explain. If my car is on idle the the system works fine, cold air, everyone is happy. If i´m running slow between 35 40 milles and if i dont kick down the accelerator the system works between 25 and 45 minutes. If i start the car, run for a litle whyle and kick down the accelerator the system turn´s off, the air ccomes out but hot. Anyone can help me please... i dont know what to do.. Once again i excuse myself for some error´s. See ya Hugo Costa |

When you say the system turns off, do you mean that the actual air conditioning pump stops working, or that just the air flow gets hot.
Check the pump is still running, if it is, then your problem is that all the air distribution flaps behind the dashboard are controlled by vacuum from the engine inlet. This is why your air conditioning works when on idle, because then you will have a high inlet manifold vacuum. You need to get behind the dashboard, and find if you have either a broken or cracked or damaged vacuum pipe, or if one of the operating bellows or pistons is disconnected or leaking. Also you need to look under the bonnet for the same problem with the little vacuum pipes there. Good luck, if you have cold air, it means that almost certainly the main system is running OK, its just a problem with the flaps that direct the air. Might take time to trace the problem, but it's cheap!

Check the air gap on the compressor clutch, adjust as link below:
http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...hlight=air+gap The reference to vaccum control by another poster is not correct the 850 has electiically controlled 'flaps'. Last edited by Chris_Rogers; Jul 31st, 2007 at 18:00. |

OOPs, sorry Chris, Was under the impression that 850's had the same system as the 960.. Wrong again!
If the air conditioning pump stops working, then Chris is very much right, check the compressor clutch..Compressor itself must be OK as you have cold air sometimes.

Well, i just want to thank you both. It seem tha t the problem is really with the gap in the clutch.
When my electrician resolves the problem i will post here the results. See you Hugo |
