Poor fuel consumption
Hi,
I have a C30 1.6D from 2007 (the PSA unit), which is only giving me mid-forties mpg on a 'combined cycle', which is disappointing. Does anyone have a similar experience? What should I expect, and what faults might contribute to poor consumption (I've already checked brakes, tyres and tracking). I've booked it in to have the following possibilities looked into: 1. The engine thinks it's cold when it's hot (rich running) 2. The air-con is actually ON, even when its set to OFF 3. The DPF is getting clogged Can anyone think of anything else I should check? Thanks everyone. |

The mpg completely depends on the type of driving you do and the way you drive the car. The majority of the time our V50 1.6D only goes a maximum of 7 or 8 miles each journey. As a result it averages 45mpg. On a long motorway drive with just me in the car I have achieved 59.1mpg at best. Fully loaded with a full boot, 4 people and a roofbox on a long journey it will struggle to get to 40mpg.
Ultimately, if most of your journeys are 5-10 miles or less then 45mpg would be expected.

Not gonna comment on MPG issue (24MPG combined is an achievement for me :P) but 45 doesnt seem too off if city/traffic is included. Diesels wont excel with MPG unless its a steady highway drive, I think...

My experience of my own Common Rail Dizzlers:
2.0HDi (Peugeot): 38mpg Winter 43mpg Summer (over 3 years) 1.6HDi (Citroen): 43mpg all-year (over 5 years) The most recent 1.6HDi does mostly town work so anything over 40mpg is quite good!

My V50 2.0l.D with 195k runs around 52-55 mpg in summer & 45-46 mpg in winter. Same regular 15 mile each way commute for work.
