Two questions gents on my S60 that has 2 faults I want to address.

1. Water ingress into headlamps - Is it the clipped on front glass area that allows water entry and what are good fixes for this.

2. Petrol cap flap locking unlocking issue - I have checked the motor works in both direction by removing and applying 12 volts to it. Is there a common fault I can investigate on to get some reliable operation of the locking mechanism.

Make sure your big (10cm black plastic) access caps are in place. Common shrinking with age loosens them.

This is what I did for the glass cover headlights (01-04) https://youtu.be/6slXpVWRQUQ
For the fuel door, do you get 'unlatched' message every time you press the button ? that would meant the button unit works properly, I would think the two small metal contacts at the motor itself are not properly inserted and touching the motor tabs. But you may also get these motors failing at some point

mine was non-functional on car purchase, previous owner just bought a key locking cap

i took it apart and found it was working ok on dismantling, but the locking pin was rubbing / binding on its rubber grommet. pulled that out, hunted garage for something to replace it, gave up, refitted without, works fine since.

always the possibility weathering may cause me issues in the future.. I'll probably remove and clean / re-grease at some point and try again to find or make a replacement rubber

fuel flap - take it apart on a bench ideally in a box so you dont lose the small yellow plastic square on the inside and clean all the old grease and re apply a small amount of silicone grease.

then as above make sure the two prongs are secure / in correct place.

refit and test
