Finally got my T5 wheels done at SEM in Sunderland. £40 each, tyres off/on using non-damaging machine/rebalanced using stick ons.

Overall very pleased. Took a couple of days, nice glittery finish as good as any new item.

Minus points were they forgot to blow up one tyre (I had to make it go pop, which I always find disconcerting even when someone else does it!), and the paint coverage was not quite as good in hard to reach areas like bolt holes and sculpted surfaces. Also no amount of persuasion would get them to do other than a primer finish on the rear (a local competitor will do that, but unfortunately their overall finish is garbage, so you take your choice!!). If they did that I would give them 10 out of 10, as it was a solid 9!

Can't think of anywhere better in the North East, unless someone knows different of course............

It would appear that I've paid over the odds at £70 per rim (see other entry about alloy wheel polish). I had no worries about dismounting the tyres because the 17" rims had been in their original boxes for 2-3 years waiting to go on. I've got a 17" Titan rim as a spare. Other minor mods already done to my Jan 1994 metallic red T5 Turbo Est. Auto (must be one of the 1st in the UK!) include V70 rear lights to replace the cloudy/scratched old ones, v70 side repeater lights, ASD rear spoiler and wood dash. I have yet to put the fog lights in; I already have the switch and the lights and presumably the wiring loom is already present.

cheers

Steve
