Hello 2011dandd.

It sounds as if you have checked the lamps themselves very thoroughly.

Putting together everything you have said, my thoughts move toward the wire[s] through the tailgate hinge. Perhaps a wire that earths the tailgate to the car body is damaged or completely broken.

If you run a length of wire from the metal of the tailgate to the metal of the car body to definitely earth the tailgate, do the lamps work? And what about the rear wiper? And by the way is there a high level brake light, does it work?

If I remember correctly David pointed out the earth connection for the tailgate early in this thread.

You are getting there. All will become clear soon.

This awakens memories of the hearse with the glassfibre tailgate ...

Did you find the fault and fix it?

Alan

As Stephen E says above, the short earth wire actually in the hinge, from one side of hinge to the other, can often be overlooked; if that is gone it will give all an several symptoms you haven't thought of, an will be a double pain as you will have to take hinge off again. So, when you get back to it, automatically replace the earth wire in both hinges, as well as ALL the others in both hinges. Then you'll KNOW that prob, poss prob, is eleminated. Bon chance.
