I am pleased to say that the problem has been solved. It took a while to resolve. The dealership performed a code read before disconnecting each modules in turn to try and eliminate the fault. No fault was found. Up to then the hybrid has been almost faultless (one problem with the alarm last summer and that’s it)
Eventually the problem was identified as water ingress in the foot-well attributed to leaking wash wipe connector which ultimately caused the car to fail a couple of weeks ago.
Unfortunately the work was not covered under the extended warranty but just pleased to have the car back. It took a while but dealership worked through it and provided regular updates. The extended warranty has 8 months to run and then it’s decision time

That leaking rear wash connector under the left side of the dash is EXACTLY the same problem as mine suffered a couple of years ago... https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showp...8&postcount=42

The consumer is completely at the 'beck and call' of the manufacturer unless you live in an area where public transport is reliable and plentiful.
That’s an interesting thought. My 2004 XC70 has 186k on it, and has plenty of life left in it. I can’t think of any spares I’ve struggled to buy from the dealer, specialists, or general motor factors. And there are plenty of used parts available.

The way the U.K. car market has changed in the last ten/fifteen years has not encouraged people to do the ecologically sensible thing and run cars for longer. A mix of a plentiful supply of ex PCP/lease cars coming on to the market is driven by dealers essentially selling finance products rather than cars, and contributes to the tragically low market value of a car at say, ten years old. In other European countries, used car prices are generally higher than the U.K. which means people keep their cars running for longer. Cars are not treated as disposable assets in the way they are in the U.K. Whilst the average age of a car in the U.K. is around 8.2 years now (up from around 6 years in 2004) in the EU it’s over 11 years.

So - I wouldn’t be worried about being able to keep older cars running, whilst they’re being driven, someone will keep making spares for them. Even if we have to import them.

Yes Zebster so not an unknown problem in a V60. As you say exactly the same issue and process to resolve it with an equally similar cost.

I should have paid attention to your post sooner, but I saw you have a PHEV and tuned out as I wrongly thought this was a PHEV-related issue. But it absolutely isn't!
