XC40 purchase - still under warranty???
Hi all
In short got an XC40 R-design D3 reserved. Price is very good but that might be due to service history. Is this car still under warranty!? Dates as follows: First registered - Early Jan 2019 First service @18,007 miles - End Nov 2019 Current mileage 31,000. So, first service went over mileage by 7 miles. Second service due a year later (as didn't hit 36k) but appears bit was in possession of car supermarket at that point. I don't believe they've done a service. Question is: - will Volvo quibble over the 7 miles over the 18k service interval? - if a service is provided as part of the purchase will this satisfy Volvo in terms of warranty validity? Any help appreciated! Dan |

The 7 miles won't be a problem. The second service being late could be an issue but I think you'll be fine as the car was sat doing nothing during that period.
The service you get on purchase from the car supermarket might be an issue. Negociate a discount and take it to Volvo or make them take it to Volvo for the service. I just bought a v60 that had been sitting around in a Volvo dealer for 12 months due to the pandemic. The service was overdue by a lot more than yours. A month after I bought it, it went for warranty work without an issue.

1month or 1000 miles is the stipulated margin to stay within the warranty conditions. I think I am right in saying that you don't necessarily have to use an authorised Volvo dealer but the car must be serviced to the manufacturer specifications using Volvo parts. If in any doubts the best course will probably be to give Volvo Customer Services a call and explain the situation or have a word with your local dealership to put your mind at rest. A volvo dealership will also be able to apply any outstanding software updates the car may have missed which an independent won't necessarily be able to do.

If it's to be serviced annually (or by miles covered), and it was last serviced in Nov 2019, then it's next service was due in Nov 2020, so it's 4 months overdue. I would think this would invalidate at least part of the warranty.

Thanks for input all - decided to leave it. Definitely wasn't under warranty any longer and added fees kept adding up. If anyone was interested it was the red D3 R-DESIGN on sale at Big motoring world. £20,300 and 31k miles is cheap but theb£200 admin fee, £300 delivery charge, £300+ for a major service (they weren't prepared to do this as a condition of the sale) and then potentially £500+ for a warrantywise warranty and it was much less of a good deal!
