Question Wing mirror puddle lights

Hi All,
I noticed last night that when I press the light button on the key fob a great set of lights conme on under the wing mirrors, but when I normaly unlock he doors they do not come on.
I have checked all through the dashboard controls and into the light settings and cannot for the life of me find how to turn these on when the car unlocks.

Anyone on here found out how to do this?

Think these are only activated when you press the light button on the fob.........and then the car lights up like a Christmas tree....and just about all lights are illuminated.

This function certainly helps you locate you car in a busy car park at night, which presumably is its function......and allows you to see where you are going when you get home late at night and it's dark.

Not aware that you can programme these to come on independently either/or when you open the car door...but will be interested if anyone knows if you can.

I'm also curious to know if there is a way for the puddle lights to be activated when opening the door, surely the point of a puddle light is to see if you are about to step into a puddle when you are both approaching the vehicle but also when your about to exit it!

The ones in the mirrors will only do the job when the door is closed. As you open the door the light will move with it and the door will cast a shadow where you about to put your feet.

In years gone by it was almost standard on slightly upmarket models for a light to be fitted in the bottom of the door linked to the courtesy lights which came on as you opened the door and did exactly what you want.

Not sure if this is still available but it would be simple fit and wire but you would have to take the door card off for access.

I can see what your saying about the door blocking some of the light out but it wouldn't block all of it so you should hopefully still be able to see a glimmer of water on the floor and thus make you aware of what you are stepping into.
Also you mention the lights in the door, I must admit that I had to pay extra when I bought my Audi for this feature (I believe it was part of the lighting pack) although I can't remember how much it cost.

I was out late on Sunday and was excited, yes sad I know, at the thought of pressing the magic light button. I was waiting for the Christmas tree effect. I pressed, waited and found it to be a bit of a damp squib. The light from the mirrors was clearly taken from the bin marked S40 dipped headlights as it had all the power of a flickering candle. I was hoping for some bright LED's. Maybe if I had the SE Lux it would be brighter, pay more, get more. Ah well, I had not used it before so it is not as though it was great previously and became poor. That button will probably remain untouched for the next 3 years.

Harvey I have the SE Lux and the puddle lights are light dim sidelights.

Like you I was completely underwhelmed by the "magic light" button. As they say in the advert " expect more" especially from Volvo. Very disappointing.

What can be the difference between the cost of a very dim build and a brighter one?

Don't forget when you get home late and it's dark you can pull the headlight highbeam stalk towards you before you leave the car. That lights the headlights for a minute or so to illuminate your walk to your front door so you don't walk in to random stuff like bikes that your kids have dumped on the path. I love this feature.

I am never quite happy about going in the house while the headlights are still on in case they don't go off and run the battery flat, but they always do....

That's a shame. I thought dim lights on an SE, fair enough it is the basic model, but you guys on SE Lux and above should be on LED's. Saying that, it is a £30k car so we should all have LED's. I think the answer to your last question is pennies.

Volvo V70 SELux mirror side lights not LED. I'm thinking to change on LED but it's not important, so it's works only from key fob, which I using 2 times per year🙂
