Update.

The guys at volvodiagnostic did an amazing job! I sent off my CEM and DIM to them and they confirmed that there was no communication with the CEM.

They reconditioned the CEM and sent it back same day. I've just put it all back together and everything has come back to life. It all seems to be working fine! Before going for a test drive though, I'm going to plug in my friends laptop this evening just to check that all the systems are reporting normal parameters.

I'm a little nervous of the electronics now after such a sudden and total failure.

It's really quite amazing that a simple failure on a pcb can shut down the whole car at speed. Losing headlights, engine and powersteering, with only reduced manual braking left, really can't be described as being a fail safe system. It's losing the headlights as well which makes it so dangerous.

Had I been driving on an A road at night and been on a bend when it happened, I would almost certainly have come off the road at speed. Quite a sobering thought really.

Anyway, very relieved to have it back up and running again and a big thanks to volvodiagnostic who were awesome.

Glad to hear you got it sorted!

Out of interest, how much did the CEM repair cost you?

It cost 180 but there was a bit of checking of the DIM as well because of a minor issue with it. I think it would have been 140 if it was only the CEM.

They have a price list on their website under the products section.

Very pleased that they were able to fix it.
