Front wheel bearing 164
A bit of help if possible
I’ve got a Scandix front wheel bearing kit. Bearings and races no trouble, I know where to put these! Question is re seal. In kit is rubber seal and two loose steel rings. It’s not obvious to me at least in what order to fit these inboard and which way round the seal goes. I’ve tried engineer common sense. It doesn’t help that what is supplied is different to what came off which was a single steel ring with integral felt/fibre seal. I’ve asked Scandix but the refer me to the manual which of course is as per original not as per kit supplied. Any ideas? |

This question comes up a lot. The 2 metal rings are for different size stub axle diameter so only one is used. The Rubber seal is fitted so that the face which in your picture is touching the clear plastic is against the new metal ring with a smear of grease. Its the same for all 140/164 and 200 series.

Thanks, if I understood correctly this is how I ended up fitting - ie seal first, smear grease, one steel ring then inner bearing. So seal lip runs on steel ring (steel ring cup facing bearing and actually fits exactly into hub). However Scandix have since come back to say steel ring goes first onto stub axle, then seal, then bearing, which contrary to what first told, contrary to what ive done and if I understood correctly, what you say? Confused now! Either “works” from a fitting viewpoint.
