Default Rear Top Mounts

Hi All,

After over a year of trial and error trying to find the knocking sound coming from the rear on my S60, I have arrived at possible top mounts.
It's had new shocks, drop links, exhaust has been checked, boot emptied, seats folded down and it still remains so only real possibility now I think is top mounts.

Is this a relatively easy job? I am considering doing it myself

Its an easy job. My Dad replaced the rear shock absorbers & top mounts on his V70 (2008) & it was a doddle.

Here's a video that shows the process in more detail. Note, the same process applies to multiple models (including yours).

Trial and Error can be expensive.

If you're a DIY person I would recommend buying a set of "Chassis Ears". They might seem expensive for a one off job, but compare to the cost of parts and time for doing unnecessary work.

I've had mine for over 10 years and only used them maybe 6 times, but I always quickly (relatively) locate the issue with noises. They've easily paid back the investment.

Here's an example product, but do some research if you go this route.

Hi All,

Thanks for all the suggestions,

Derekcherry, I never thought of trailing arm bushes maybe I'll try that first, was yours over small ripply type bumps? mines doesn't do it over even bumps (speed bumps etc)
