We have a much loved manual 1999 V70 XT, the body and interior are very good, it still has it's original exhaust, but the suspension etc are showing their age and we either had to send her to join the others in the grave yard or invest some money to give her a new lease of life. I've spent a fortune on new suspension and parts but have now ground to a halt on the n/s hub carrier, it just will not come apart. I know ours was a run out model but I can't find a replacement hub carrier and driveshaft. Does anyone know if the manual and auto are the same ? and anyone that you recommend to contact to help ?

Hi ourv70
Start by calling your local Volvo dealer and getting prices and part numbers for the hub (I think they call it spindle) and driveshaft. Helpful if you give them your registration and VIN. I think the spindle is not that expensive. Then ask back here and see if are cheaper options. HTH Steve

If the problem is the end of the CV joint stuck in the hub why not just get a new CV joint kit, remove the joint from the driveshaft and you could then pull the steering knuckle out complete with bearing & CV, you can then remove the bearing carrier and then you just put your new bearing in and replace the CV joint. I don't see why you would need an entire driveshaft.
There's only 2 types of CV joint either with a big nut or a bolt into the end. I'd try using the WD40 fast release penetrant stuff and smacking the end (with a bit of wood and a hammer) to try and free it first. Had to do that on my mx5 when putting in the LSD but not had an issue with the Volvo's on that. There again I change the complete CV joints each time the boots split so they don't really get chance to rust weld together...

Driveshaft for S70 was certainly available a couple of years back, when my one disintegrated... garage replaced it for free, since they had been working on stuff nearby and thought "they should have noticed a problem!"

If its drive shaft stuck in the hub, then removing the hub assy, standing it face down, filling the back side with penetrant and leaving it a couple of days normally helps.
Or get it in a 20T press.
