Update.
Popped over yesterday and fitted the new genuine Volvo pipe section which cost around £26 from FRF Swansea.
New hose clamps from Halfords (so they did get £1.60 out of this) to replace the single use oetiker clamps.

System pressure tested and left for 5 minutes with no coolant leak and no loss of pressure.
The original, "That will be £800 madam" issue is job done for under £30.

sadly I dont think they'll really care very much.. obviously they SHOULD care but they'll just say 'sorry about that' and that'll be the end of it

you could write a review on a few websites but even that would be swamped by a million other reviews with such a huge company

best thing really is to treat it as a lesson learnt - Halfords is just a shop, they're not specialists in any way whatsoever.. it's a bit like asking someone from Tesco to do the catering for your wedding just because they sell food

if you need simple things like track rod ends changed or simple suspension work, take it to a decent garage. anything electrical or engine related, take it to a volvo specialist

and even then it doesn't cost anything to check on the forum just to make sure

kudos again to Cheshired for sorting it out correctly

I think a report to your local trading standards may be the best way to get some action. They may not take action from your individual case, but they do have the power to prosecute if they think there is a case, and if everyone that had an issue reports it they would be more likely to take action.

See example from Warwickshire :
