Like Luke says, a proper Lambda socket is essential and yes, they're all 22mm for what we need anyway.

I've always found it easiest to get the engine hot so the exhaust manifold/downpipes (depending on location) are hot then i usually use a 2' breaker bar on the end of the Lambda socket to loosen it then swap to either spinning it round by hand or using a ratchet.

It will be hot when you take it out so some sort of gloves are advisable (but not nitrile/latex or similar! ) to actually lift it out.

Apply some copper grease to the threads of the new one, they usually come with a spot of anti-sieze compound on but it is only a spot!

Feed it into the hole by hand then while putting inwards pressure on it, turn it anticlockwise (as if undoing it) until you feel the thread click then turn it clockwise as far as you can by hand then tighten it with the ratchet and Lambda socket.
This helps to avoid cross-threading which is fairly easy to do on a 2mm thread pitch!

Thanks

The sockets are only a tenner or so so worth keeping one in the garage, only for me to lose and repurchase at a later date.

Your garage is like my shed Kelv, it has a black hole to temporarily swallow tools until you order a replacement...........
