Default A busy (not to mention expensive) month on my T-5R

The lambda light came up on my T-5R, which after a quick read of the codes looked as if the front knock sensor was to blame (incorrect or no signal). This prompted me to bite the bullet and get a whole lot of jobs done by my preferred repairers, D&A autos of Witney, Oxfordshire - 125 miles from me so obviously I think they are excellent.

Jobs done were

Replace both knock sensors with the later paired type (this fixed the lambda problem)

Replace the PCV and pipework whilst the inlet manifold was off (the old one had only done 30,000 miles but was 12 years old)

Drop the sump and replace o-rings to cure significant oil leak

Change oil and filter

Fit reconditioned compressor for A/C and re-gas (the old one was working fine but was making a noise so only a matter of time before it would pack up).

Repair both the electric seat back recliners (they haven't worked since I bought the car 15 months ago - drive cables had stretched and disconnected)

Replace front suspension drop links (rubbers were split)

Cure sticky drivers door central locking

Replace passenger side dash speaker and grille (they had second-hand ones kicking around)

Replace passenger side dash air vent

Replace fuel filler to tank clamps

Replace cooling fan (it packed up and seized whilst they were working on it. luckily they had a s/h/ one to hand)

Replace under bonnet diagnostic code reader (my fly-lead came apart, again a second-hand one was to hand)

Labour for that lot was a very reasonable 12 hours @ £60/hour plus VAT.
The parts bill was ouch!!! - all genuine Volvo parts used.

Wallet is now in intensive care but I think it'll pull through. The car meanwhile is very happy.

Regards
John

Ouch! That was a big hit!

Hopefully the car will appreciate the love and reward you with a few weeks of trouble free motoring

Seriously though, well done on doing the right thing. It'll be worth it.

A few weeks? - I should be so lucky lol. Went to fill it up yesterday and the fuel flap wouldn't open. Had to use the manual release. Still, an easy enough fix.

I've also got a nasty feeling that the ignition ring is about to play up as when I started it again after filling, the headlights didn't come on and when I shut it off, it kept running for a few seconds. A bit of key jiggling seems to have sorted it.... for now.

Ah, the joys of an old Volvo.

John

Are D&A Autos old Volvo - specifically 850/70 - specialists?? I need my ABS sorting on my 70R and I don't want to put it into the local garage really. I'm not far from Witney.

When the Volvo dealership closed in the 1990's D&A autos were set up by the guys who left there. They really know their way around all old Volvos, especially the 740/760's and 850/70 series. They also service and repair even modern ones. When I picked my car up on Monday they had an 850R, V70R series 1 AWD and an V70R series 2 all in to have jobs done - that says it all really. I've used them for years and they regularly fettled my C70GT T5 coupe when I lived in Witney. I've kept using them ever since.

Regards
John
