Unhappy 2012MY V60 locking wheel nut problem

Hello all,

I was off to my local tyre place this morning to have a pair of rear tyres fitted, but when I went to my go to place in the centre console for the removal key it wasn't there.

I had a recent 3am visit from a local low life with a "man in the middle box" a couple of months ago and I thought all he'd managed to get was a torch. Not so

I was wondering whether Volvo dealers would make a note on their service systems during PDI as to what key code the locking wheel nuts were fitted, so that I might be able to buy a replacement key. Does anyone know please?

Or, am I looking at a complete new set of 4 plus a key and paying someone to have them taken off?

Thanks in advance.

Robin

Default Result !!

Replying to myself (LOL) just in case this can help anyone in the Birmingham area in the same situation.

I got hold of a very helpful chap who came out within the hour and got all 4 nuts off within 25 minutes for a very reasonable £60.

For reference Volvo dealers have access to the master set which will determine the key you need to remove it , they would order you one or two , always wise to have 2 .

IMHO locking wheel nuts are more trouble than they're worth. I've always replaced them with standard nuts/bolts.

that was the case up until 2010 when volvo changed them to the current Italian type which don't give problems . They are part of the Thatcham Insurance ratings which the got got certified with . so best not to remove them .

So now I know that I'll put them back on. Still find them a pain in the backside to be honest. It's like have four hex head screws and then the fifth one is socket head, and that annoys me too,

I had this issue when I recently acquired my V70.

10 minutes with a set of extractors had them all out. I've have mine ages but a set of the common sizes is only £15 or so.

I my experience even the best lockers offer barely token resistance to anyone properly equipped.
