Default Part number help

Hi all,

I need a new wheel bearing for my 1995 940 Estate, ABS, front driver's side. It has discs on the back (I'm told this info will help).

Started making a horrid noise while turning left every time this afternoon, felt like the wheel was going to fall off. Nothing before today.

I just wondered if anyone would happen to know the specific manufacturers part number as I have found someone who may be able to source the part but I don't have the tools or know how to get to the wheel bearing. My guy who does can't get to me until Thurs.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

You'll need a new hub (it has integral bearings) and hub nut (usually supplied with the new hubs) as Mark has linked to. Don't remove the plastic retaining sleeve until you are actually sliding the new hub and bearings onto the stub axle, you'll regret it if you do!
Also support the outer bearing as you push the hub assembly on. Can't remember the torque setting but if memory serves it's fairly high followed by 1/4 turn , i can check or someone else might tell you before then.

Wouldn't advise driving until you get it done, can you make do without it for a couple of days?

Also you'll have to wait to get the new hub as well so you might not even have that until thursday when your local guy can fit you in.

Have you jacked the car up and checked for play on the hub ? They are pretty robust hubs on the 940. It might be a sticking caliper / slider bolts so best to check before you go splashing £100 + on a new hub

Good point Mark but in fairness he's described exactly how they fail when they do - not a pleasant experience!

Still worth double checking and thanks also for adding the torque/angle settings for the hub nut.

The Volvo part number is 271644 for the hub. They have SKF stamped on them and are identical to VKBA1435. SKF don't sell the bearings separately.
