Alan;

Pulling back on the Dir Ind Control Stalk is indeed the Headlight Flasher function as we are used to now on modern cars...except that our DOT in their wisdom, did not allow this "highfalutin Eurofunction" to be enabled at the time...

Volvo complied by simply not installing the relay (the wiring and function of the Stalk remains).

We can easily enable this function by finding the wires (typically insulated and tucked away in the area where the control relay was to be located), and simply reinstalling the relay. Ref: https://www.sw-em.com/Wiring_Diagram...Wiring_Diagram Item 7
also: https://www.sw-em.com/Headlight_Notes.htm

F1 and 2 should be 35A Lucas rated fuses.
F3 is supposed to be also a 35A according to all the manuals and WDs, but this is just plain wrong, and covered here: https://www.sw-em.com/tech_bulletin_4.htm I recommend a 10A rated 3AG fuse be installed to retain the intended safety function (which is to protect the wiring in case of a fault overcurrent).

Cheers

Thanks, again, Ron.

I did replace F3 with a 10A per your instructions on our first phone call way back and from reading your wonderful website!

I'll see if I care to dig out the flash feature on the stalk. Still odd that it blew a 10A test fuse if it wasn't connected.

A 20 amp USA rated fuse will carry 20 amps continuously & blow at 35 amps in a short time. A 17/35 amp Lucas fuse will carry 17 amps continuously & blow at 35 amps in a short time. The 20 amp US fuse is pretty much equivalent to the 17/35 amp Lucas fuse. Just different rating systems.
