Not sure this is possible as Car Play is just an extension of the phones screen.

Is Hot Spot enabled and the phone is using the cars data rather than its own?

Yes i just bought an xc60 the sim card goes in the passenger footwell.
You remove the cover and behind it is a sim card holder. The biggest problem is that i didn't notice the gap between the back of the carpet and the front of the modem.
Of course I dropped the holder and sim card and of course it fell down the gap. had i spotted the gap in advance i'd have put a cloth there to stop anything falling through.
Fortunately i called the Volvo dealer who located and refitted the sim correctly for me in about 3 minutes.

Thank to the dealership as i didn't want to start taking the floor apart on day 2 of owning my first volvo.

However like most people in the post i'm not sure which is best - the in car sim card or connecting and using my phone over bluetooth.

maybe someone here now has more advice?

I have just bought a 2012 xc60 R Dseign, there is no phone symbol on the dashboard or on the steering wheel. Does this mean the car is not Bluetooth enabled?
